Please note

Our tour serves only vegan food and we take pride in offering it. However, it’s important to keep in mind that most Moroccans do not adopt a vegan lifestyle. During your stay, you may come across situations where animals are involved in routine daily activities and more. Our commitment is to deliver a travel experience that is characterized by compassion and mindfulness. This includes a sincere acknowledgment of the local culture and practices, even if they may differ from vegan principles. We encourage understanding and respect for the cultural context, while still ensuring a vegan-friendly journey for our participants. The trip is open to everyone — you are not required to be vegan to join us.

Who should come on this trip?

Anyone with a desire to be around a group of people who want to explore Morocco. The way of life in the country is not like the USA. Therefore, it’s important that travelers visit with an open-mind and understand that the culture and lifestyle is not the same. You will likely see animals being used to cart goods and in markets, as well as leather goods. In addition, it’s important that anyone joining this trip is open-minded, patient and understanding. Not everyone on the trip may be vegan. However, we do ask that while with the group, no animal products are consumed. Please be courteous of those who have different view points. This is a group of strangers traveling together who will become friends — remember kindness is key. And so is travel insurance. We recommend World Nomads.

For those who want to experience traveling in a sustainable way, ecotourism is the way to go. The term ‘ecotourism’ has been around for a while—and you’ve probably heard it a few times in the recent years. Over the coming years, you’re going to hear more and more about it.

As a long-time traveler and host of my own vegan tours, ecotourism and supporting local communities is very important to me. I learned a lot during my time working in responsible elephant tourism in Thailand and continue to thread that through in all of the trips I host.

Be sure to travel smart! Get travel insurance to protect you and your trip.

What is ecotourism?

The 25 best destinations for ecotourism (2024)

Ecotourism means responsible travel to natural areas while conserving the environment. You will be traveling to destinations in a way that you make a positive impact on the environment as well as the local community. Ecotourism is usually done on a small scale (the opposite of mass travel). Even then, the negative impacts of traveling are minimized as much as possible.

Visiting ecotourism destinations is a great way to learn more about the environment, use sustainable resources, and help the local economy.

Where should you head for your ecotourism trip?

The 25 best destinations for ecotourism (2024). What is ecotourism?

The World Economic Forum ranks 136 destinations based on their natural sites and species, perfect for ecotourism. In this blog post, we list the 25 best ecotourism destinations in the world for 2024 and beyond—they’re sustainable and will give you a true feel of ecotourism!

Throughout your travels to the best ecotourism destinations, be sure to make responsible choices. For example, visit where there’s usually a small number of visitors, eat and stay local, and respect the environment by reducing your carbon footprint. When you can, take a walk instead of public transport and be mindful of your activities. And if you choose tour operators, make sure they prioritize having a good environmental impact. Are you looking for some delicious vegan and gluten-free dessert recipes? Look no further! In this post, we have compiled a list of 10 mouth-watering dessert recipes that are both vegan and gluten-free.

The best vegan and gluten free desserts

These desserts are perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth who is looking for a healthy and tasty treat and is vegan or on a vegan diet.

Understanding Gluten-Free

The best vegan and gluten free desserts

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and their derivatives. There are different ways gluten can impact people. For individuals with celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, or wheat allergy, consuming gluten can lead to various health issues. As a result, the term “gluten-free” refers to a diet devoid of gluten-containing ingredients (AKA gluten-free diets). This lifestyle is crucial for those with gluten-related disorders to maintain optimal health.

Why go gluten-free?

Adopting a gluten-free lifestyle can offer various benefits, particularly for individuals with gluten sensitivity, celiac disease, or wheat allergies. Here are some advantages associated with a gluten-free diet:

  1. Relief for Gluten Sensitivity and Celiac Disease: For individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, eliminating gluten from the diet is essential. It helps alleviate symptoms such as digestive issues, fatigue, and joint pain, and prevents damage to the small intestine in those with celiac disease.

  2. Improved Digestive Health: Going gluten-free can contribute to improved digestive health for individuals with gluten-related disorders. It may reduce symptoms like bloating, gas, and abdominal discomfort.

  3. Enhanced Nutrient Absorption: Individuals with celiac disease often experience malabsorption of nutrients due to damage to the small intestine. Adopting a gluten-free diet can improve nutrient absorption and overall nutritional status.

  4. Reduced Inflammation: Some individuals may experience inflammation in response to gluten consumption. Going gluten-free may help reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms associated with inflammatory conditions.

  5. Increased Energy Levels: For those with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, eliminating gluten-triggered fatigue can lead to increased energy levels and an overall improvement in well-being.

  6. Weight Management: Going gluten-free may contribute to weight management, as gluten-free diets often emphasize whole, unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and gluten-free grains.

  7. Improved Mental Health: Some individuals with gluten sensitivity report improvements in mood and mental clarity after adopting a gluten-free diet. The connection between gluten and mental health is an area of ongoing research.

  8. Better Skin Health: Skin conditions associated with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, such as dermatitis herpetiformis, may improve with a gluten-free diet. Clearing the trigger may lead to healthier skin.

  9. Support for Autoimmune Conditions: Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder, and some individuals with autoimmune conditions may find relief by avoiding gluten. Research is ongoing to explore the link between gluten and autoimmune diseases.

  10. Alternative Grain Exploration: Going gluten-free encourages the exploration of alternative grains and flours, such as quinoa, rice, almond, or coconut flour. This diversification can introduce new nutrients and flavors to the diet.

Common misconceptions about vegan gluten-free desserts

The best vegan and gluten free desserts

One of the biggest misconceptions about vegan gluten-free desserts is that they are not as tasty as traditional desserts. However, this is far from the truth! There are many delicious vegan and gluten-free desserts that are just as satisfying as their non-vegan and gluten-containing counterparts. Another misconception is that vegan gluten-free desserts are difficult to make. While it may take some practice to get the hang of baking without gluten and animal products, there are many recipes available that are easy to follow and produce great results.

Challenges in Creating Gluten Free Desserts

  1. Flour Replacement: Sweet treats heavily rely on all-purpose wheat flour for structure and texture. Replacing wheat flour with gluten-free alternatives such as rice flour, oat flour, almond flour, coconut flour, or tapioca flour can be challenging. These alternatives have different properties, affecting the final product’s taste and texture.
  2. Texture and Binding: Gluten plays a vital role in providing elasticity and structure to baked goods. Without gluten, achieving the desired texture can be difficult. Gluten-free desserts often require additional ingredients like xanthan gum or guar gum to mimic the binding properties of gluten to make desserts like vegan chocolate cake. Other alternatives include dry ingredients like flax egg.
  3. Moisture Retention: Gluten helps retain moisture in baked goods, contributing to their softness. Gluten-free flours tend to be more absorbent, leading to desserts that may be dry or crumbly. Adjusting moisture levels and incorporating ingredients like applesauce or yogurt becomes crucial for a moist and palatable result.
  4. Leavening Agents: Gluten-free flours may not interact with leavening agents (baking soda, baking powder) in the same way as wheat flour. Finding the right balance to achieve proper rising and aeration in gluten-free desserts can be a complex task even in a delicious recipe.
  5. Taste Sensitivity: Gluten-free flours often have distinct flavors that can impact the overall taste of desserts. Achieving a neutral or complementary taste while ensuring a satisfying sweetness can be challenging for bakers who strive for the best results.
  6. Cross-Contamination Concerns: Cross-contamination is a significant concern for individuals with celiac disease. To create truly gluten-free desserts, it’s essential to use dedicated equipment and ingredients to prevent any trace of gluten.
  7. Limited Ingredient Options: Some gluten-free flours and ingredients may be less readily available or more expensive than traditional counterparts. This limited availability can restrict the variety of gluten-free desserts, making it harder to cater to diverse tastes.
  8. Educating Staff: In commercial kitchens and restaurants, ensuring staff is well-educated about gluten-free practices is vital. Cross-contact can occur during food preparation. Therefore, staff must understand the importance of dedicated utensils, pans, and workspaces.

Despite these challenges, advancements in gluten-free baking have led to innovative techniques and a broader range of gluten-free ingredients. Thankfully, skilled bakers and chefs continue to explore creative ways to overcome these obstacles. Today, chefs provide delicious and inclusive dessert options for individuals with gluten-related dietary restrictions. It is possible to make a healthy vegan dessert that is ok for people with food allergies or need gluten free options.

Vegan Dining Month Guide: Las Vegas (2024)

Welcome to the seventh annual Vegan Dining Month taking place in Las Vegas the entire month of January. In conjunction with Veganuary, an international non-profit challenging people to go vegan for the month, Vegans, Baby’s annual event celebrates plant-based dining in the Valley.

This is a guide to all restaurants participating in the 2024 Vegan Dining Month. At the end of the month, each restaurant will donate a portion of the proceeds from their specific dishes below to the Nevada SPCA.

Since 1982, Nevada SPCA is the original lifesaving animal shelter in Las Vegas for over 40 years. They are a local, independent, 501(3)c nonprofit that does not have a government contract or any regular funding from national organizations; they rely entirely on donations from our community.  Nevada SPCA intakes an average of 2500 homeless pets each year including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and pet rats; 65% of their intake is from surrenders by pet owners for a variety of reasons including financial hardship, lease restrictions, pet veterinary costs, family changes, owner’s passing and more, and the remainder of their intake is from transfers from other shelters in Nevada as well as orphan kittens from the streets.  Every animal that enters the shelter is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered and provided the needed medical care to prepare them for adoption. Nevada SPCA also has a Community Support Desk and Pet Pantry that provides food and low-cost veterinary assistance for families in need to keep pets where they belong: with the owners they love.

Cheap vegan eats in NYC’s Lower East Side and Downtown NYC

Is inflation cramping your style and preventing you from going out for lunch? New York City can be expensive and it’s even more challenging when looking for affordable vegan options. However, there are still great deals to be had if you know where to look. We’ve got you covered when it comes to good deals in one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the world.

While you won’t be going to Chef Amanda Cohen’s Dirt Candy and indulging in vegan fine dining if you’re on a budget, there are plenty of menu items at affordable prices in the area for good food. While there aren’t any exclusively vegan restaurants on the list, it’s important to note that most vegan spots in these neighborhoods don’t open during the day, like Chef Shenarri Freeman’s Cadence (please order the Southern Fried Lasagne), Delice & Sarrasin or Superiority Burger. Spicy Moon, a fan favorite, does have an amazing lunch menu, but it doesn’t come in under $10 … though it’s close!

These are six of great spots in the Lower East Side and Downtown NYC where you can satisfy your hunger for $10 or less. Warning: they may become some of your favorite restaurants and give you good reason to spend more time in this diverse neighborhood.

6 of our top picks for cheap vegan food in NYC

Rainbow Falafel

Here are our top six picks for where to find vegan food in NYC for $10 or less. For more NYC vegan dining visit www.vegansbaby.com

Founded in 1992 by Mohammad Jamal, this pocket-sized spot has been a staple in Union Square ever since. How popular is this vegan-friendly NYC locale? Lunchtime often finds a line snaking out the door thanks to the recipes Mohammad learned from his grandmother growing up in Syria. You know you’re getting the real thing when you order any of their plant-based meals.

There are several vegan options including the namesake falafel, stuffed grape leaves, hummus and savory pies (spinach or za’atar) all under $8. Our go-to’s are the falafel (not surprisingly) and spinach pie.

To this day the restaurant is a family affair and you’ll often find Mohammed behind the counter with his wife or son. It’s one of the best places in the area for budget-friendly plant-based menu options. There’s no seating but you can grab your grub and head over to Union Square to enjoy your bounty. 26 E 17th St.

Tokuyamatcha & Onigirazu Bar

Here are our top six picks for where to find vegan food in NYC for $10 or less. For more NYC vegan dining visit www.vegansbaby.com

This well-hidden vegan-friendly great place in Alphabet City’s menu features a couple of vegan items for people who love a plant-based diet. For just $10, your choice of filling is enveloped in sushi rice and wrapped-up in nori seaweed for the perfect on-the-go lunch.

There are two vegan options on the menu and one vegetarian tofu option that can easily be made vegan. Simply ask for them to swap non-vegan mayo for the vegan version. We had the tofu onigirazu and our taste buds couldn’t have been happier (or fuller!). And if you’re a green tea lover, don’t miss their ceremonial grade matcha drinks!

Fun fact: the owners also own hair salons in NYC and Tokyo and opened this spot in an effort to “Spread some Japanese culture with love,” and we’re so happy they did. While seating is extremely limited, consider taking your onigirazo to 6BC Botanical Garden, a small neighborhood oasis across the street, to enjoy your meal. 627 E 6th St.

Yubu

Here are our top six picks for where to find vegan food in NYC for $10 or less. For more NYC vegan dining visit www.vegansbaby.com

Yubu means “fried bean curd (tofu)” in Korean. And that’s exactly what you’ll find at this great spot which specializes in palm-sized pockets of tofu skin stuffed with sushi-style rice and other Korean-spiced toppings. Choose from spicy mushroom, bulgogi flavored mushroom or avocado at $3.50 a pop. Grab a few fun flavors to make a meal.

It has multiple locations. The East Village location is take-out only (sometimes there are a few outdoor seats in nice weather), while the SoHo location has indoor seating for about 14. If you’re at the East Village location, just head over to Tompkins Square Park for a place to eat with great people-watching! 86 E 7th St., 46 Grand St.

Manousheh

Here are our top six picks for where to find vegan food in NYC for $10 or less. For more NYC vegan dining visit www.vegansbaby.com

Established in 2013, Manousheh is a popular spot  and a welcome addition to the neighborhood that expanded from a pop-up in Nolita to two locations in Manhattan (Bleeker St. near Washington Square Park & Grand St.).

It’s namesake, Manousheh, is a Lebanese flatbread with various toppings, most commonly Za’atar (a spice mixture of sumac, oregano and sesame seeds) mixed with olive oil. Here, you can also get this comfort food with hummus, falafel or Muhammara (a red pepper, pomegranate, walnut spread) ranging in price for $6 – $9.

In addition, they serve fatayer (a savory pie) stuffed with spinach, tomato, onions and lemon juice for $8. It’s definitely the right place to head for cheaper vegan eats in the city and an excellent spot for Lebanese food. 193 Bleecker Street; 403 Grand St.

The Kati Roll Company

Here are our top six picks for where to find vegan food in NYC for $10 or less. For more NYC vegan dining visit www.vegansbaby.com

First, what is a kati roll? Simply put, kati rolls are wraps made by enfolding a variety of fillings inside a roti (a type of Indian flatbread) and are a popular street food all over Kolkata (formerly Calcutta).

Nostalgic for the street food of her hometown, Payal Saha opened The Kati Roll Company in 2002 after moving to NYC from Kolkata. She had a feeling the hand-sized self contained rolls would be perfect for busy New Yorkers – and she was right.

With four NYC locations, including Greenwich Village/West Village, vegans can choose between the Aloo Masala Roll (mashed potato patty with tomatoes, peppers & spices) or the Chana Masala Roll (chickpeas with tomatoes). The best part? Each are under $7. 49 W. 39th St; 99 MacDougal St;. 229 E .53rd St.; 22 Maiden Ln.

The oldest falafel restaurant in the city, Mamoun’s has been serving up authentic Middle Eastern food since 1971. Founded by Mamoun Charter who emigrated from Damascus, Syria, the business is run today by his four sons.

And while they have expanded with locations throughout the Northeast, you can still visit the OG spot in Greenwich Village where you can pick up a fully loaded falafel for only $5,99. Since they’re always busy you can be assured of a freshly made hot sandwich. And since that location is open until 2am, it’s the perfect place for a post bar crawl bite. 30 St. Marks Pl.; 119 Macdougal St.

So it’s true there’s no such thing as a free lunch. But, if you know about these excellent spots, you can get some of the best vegan food for $10 or less!

Are you planning a Las Vegas vacation? Or, are you looking for a vegan restaurant in Las Vegas to try that’s doing something unlike any other restaurant in town? Look no further. These are five unique vegan restaurants in Las Vegas you’ve got to check out.

What makes these restaurants unique? Simply put: they’re doing something special in town. Whether it’s a ginormous offering of tacos to delicate vegan sushi, these are the spots that are one-of-a-kind in Las Vegas. Except Tacotarian. They are four-of-a-kind, but you get the idea.

If you still need more ideas, check out my list for the 10 best vegan restaurants in Las Vegas

3. Tacotarian

Tacotarian is a vegan restaurant in Las Vegas. The vegan Mexican restaurant is opening up its third location in Henderson summer 2021.

The biggest vegan restaurant group in Las Vegas with four locations  in the Valley, Tacotarian isn’t your normal Mexican spot.

This vegan Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas boasts the self-proclaimed largest selection of tacos in the universe, which comes in at nearly 20 varieties. They’ve also got a range of apps like Taki-encrusted elote, creamy queso fundido and cauliflower ceviche.

In addition, they serve burritos, salads, soups and more, as well as a variety of desserts. Tacotarian also has booze, including specialty margaritas, and a killer brunch. As if that all wasn’t enough, they’re home to the “world’s largest taco.”

What to order: queso fundido, any of the tacos, coconut cream cake

4. Daikon Vegan Sushi & More

Vegan food near me: the 10 best vegan restaurants in Las Vegas. Daikon Vegan Sushi is one of the 10 best vegan restaurants in Las Vegas, For more vegan dining in Las Vegas visit www.vegansbaby.com

Daikon Vegan Sushi & More has it all. Amazing vegan sushi. Amazing vegan Asian food. Amazing flavors. It may have taken me forever to check them out, but now I regret taking to long to get to Northwest Las Vegas because Daikon is excellent.

What to order: katsu, sushi

5. Blackout (Dining in the Dark)

Blackout Dining in the Dark is an all-vegan restaurant serving coursed meals for lunch and dinner in the dark. Fore more vegan food in Las Vegas, visit www.vegansbaby.com/vegansbaby2018

PHOTO: Blackout

Like the name suggests, Blackout features an entirely blacked out dining room.

Guided by servers wearing night vision goggles, your other senses are heightened as you go through their coursed, set menu in pitch black. At the end, you can see what the meal you consumed was … but not until then.

Although they don’t market themselves as vegan, the menu is 100 percent vegan.

What to order: a drink to go with your set menu
