Queen of Hearts

  • August 20, 2020
  • Las Vegas Vegan Dining

Vegan high tea is becoming a thing in Las Vegas, and we’re here for it. Queen of Hearts is the latest addition to the vegan high tea scene in Las Vegas … and it’s been a few months in the making.

The woman behind Queen of Hearts is acclaimed Chef Angela Sweetser, a sugar artist and chocolatier.

She’s lent her talent to major names like Ritz-Carlton and The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas and appeared on Food Network’s “Halloween Wars” twice.

Sweetser has also medaled for artistic chocolate and sugar sculptures from the American Culinary Federation and won dessert competitions with the international Chaines des Rotisseurs.

So, it make sense that this dessert queen step into her own with Queen of Hearts.

Las Vegas Vegan-Friendly Restaurant: Queen of Hearts

The Henderson vegan-friendly restaurant opened shortly before the State ordered shelter-in-place, but that didn’t stop Sweetser. She continued her work once she was able to, building the business from the ground up. Friends and local culinary students even pitched in to help paint and get it ready to open.

The result?

A  Las Vegas-themed tea shop, complete with cards, mixed with traditional tea aspects like dainty tea sets.

Vegan High Tea at Queen of Hearts

Thankfully, Sweetser takes her talents and shares them with the vegan community.

The vegan high tea at Queen of Hearts starts with tea service. You can choose from a variety of teas including black, green and fruit. It comes complete with vintage pot, cups and saucer.

Then, it’s on to the vegan high tea bites.

First, there are the vegan scones. Served piping hot, the scones come in apricot and rosemary, and cranberry and chocolate. Jam and vegan butter accompanies them.

Then, it’s on to the main presentation, a three-tiered cake stand adorned with tiny savory bites, cookies and pastries.

The delicate savory dishes at Queen of Hearts feature a few options.

There are mushrooms topped with Queen Anne’s Lace; a golden sweet potato butterfly (marinated sweet potato a top a butterfly cookie); English cucumbers sandwiching roasted red pepper hummus with Safflower petals; and farfalle pasta with artichokes, olives and Heirloom tomatoes.

What steal the show at Queen of Hearts are the sweets. Obviously.

Sweetser has created an assortment of sugary bites for the vegan high tea.

We’re obsessed with the bunny cream puffs, which come dipped in vegan white chocolate and filled with a tart lemon curd. Grab the vegan cream puff recipe from Chef!

But, truly, we love every offering.
